After Care
You will be closely monitored in our recovery area until you are in stable condition, then you will be discharged. Most patients are discharged one hour after surgery. However, it is not unusual to experience sleepiness and dizziness for 12 to 24 hours after receiving anesthesia. You will receive verbal and written post-surgical care instructions (please follow these instructions) including signs and symptoms of potential problems.
Your escort must be available to discuss and sign these instructions before you will be allowed to go home. When you return home please follow your doctor’s orders regarding diet, rest, medication and activity.
Patient Care
Please make arrangements in advance to have a responsible adult drive you home from the surgery center. If you will be sedated or receive anesthesia during your visit, we cannot allow you to drive yourself home or take public transportation or taxis alone. Similarly, you will be required to have a responsible adult stay with you at home after your surgery and throughout the night. This is a requirement of the facility and your surgery may have to be canceled if no arrangements for care have been made.
Care of Children
If you are the patient and have young children at home please plan to have someone else care for them for at least the first 24 hours following your surgery or procedure. Your physician will give you instructions about when you can resume caring for them and any restrictions after your surgery.
If you experience anything unusual after your surgery, please call your surgeon or go to the nearest emergency room.
A nurse from our center will call you one to two days after your surgery to follow your recovery.
